Private Lessons
Private Lesson Information
An essential part of any successful band program is a strong private lesson program. Private lessons will be offered at Shadow Ridge before, during and after school. Unlike tutoring, private lessons are not needed just for those students that may be struggling. Private lessons are for every student. In class, we are not able to give your child individualized attention as much as we would like. Private lessons are a chance for your child to have lessons with a specialist on their instrument and have instruction that is geared specifically for each student. Students that may be struggling can get the extra help to improve, but the average to advanced players can get instruction to advance further and keep them challenged outside of class. Our private lesson staff has been hired by the Shadow Ridge band staff and has completed LISD background checks. These teachers are highly qualified professionals that will work closely with the band directors to help each student progress. The LISD has implemented a pay scale for all people who teach private lessons on an LISD campus. The rate for a 30-minute lesson in LISD is currently set at $24, and lessons are typically held once per week. Lesson length taught before or after school will be determined by you (the parent) and the private lesson teacher, and normally, longer private lesson times are available; just ask your private teacher about their availability. Teachers may also be able to offer multiple lessons per week. Students that are interested in private lessons must complete the Private Lesson Form in the Band Handbook. The completed forms will be given to the appropriate private teacher, and they will call to schedule specific lesson times. If this form is not available, email Mr. Patterson at PattersonR@lisd.net to assist in setting these up. We look forward to having your child involved in the private lesson program!
